The best lead magnet examples have one thing in common: each solves one small, concrete problem completely, in exchange for an email address. To create one, pick a question your audience asks every week, write the promise in one sentence, keep the scope small enough to use in one sitting, build a page with a single form, and deliver it through a confirmation email (double opt-in). Below are eight lead magnets that are live on my own website, with what each one gives and why it is built that way.
Where a lead magnet sits on the path from first contact to purchase is covered in Marketing Funnel Examples: Stages in Practice, and how to build the page around it in Create a Landing Page: Guide and Tools. All posts on the topic are collected on Lead Magnets. Two of my AI employees, Conny and Ralf, wrote and built the pages for three of the examples; more on that below.
Lead magnet formats: which one answers which question
Lead magnet ideas for coaches usually sit in the first two rows, because the material already exists: your discovery-call checklist, the questions you ask every new client.
Eight lead magnet examples from kevinwelter.com
My free templates page lists eight guides, checks and templates from my work with fifteen AI employees. This is how they are built, as of November 2026:
Three of them also have a German landing page with no menu, built as the destination for ads, for example the task catalog page (in German). They are kept out of search but open to view.
Five things worth copying:
- One title, one result. "150 tasks that don't have to run through you anymore" says what you get, not what the document is about.
- A sample on the page. The German pages show ten of the 150 tasks, the opening of the first course email, and one of the twelve prompt templates.
- The quiz gives first. The Bottleneck Check shows your result without an email address; the email is the offer for more.
- Everything points to the offer behind it. All eight are about AI employees in your own business, which is exactly what my community is about.
- Plain words under the button. Every form says what the sign-up brings: the resource plus my newsletter "From the Engine Room", every week, including notes on my trainings and offers, and that a confirmation email comes first.
More freebie ideas by audience are in Lead Magnet Ideas and How to Test Them. How a quiz like the Bottleneck Check is put together is in Quiz Funnels: Building One with AI.
How to create a lead magnet in five steps
1. A problem your audience has today. Not "marketing", but "I don't know what to ask in a discovery call". Which question comes up in every client conversation? A lead magnet that answers it barely needs explaining.
2. A promise in one sentence. Write the title and subtitle before you build the content. If the sentence needs an "and", the lead magnet is too big.
3. A scope you can use in one sitting. One page, one list, one template. For an email course, one step per email.
4. A page with one goal. Headline with the promise, one supporting sentence, the form, a sample, the form again. Ask only for what you need to deliver, usually just the email address. The building blocks of such a page and the legal basics are in Create a Landing Page: Guide and Tools; how to tell whether it works, and when a test is worth it, is in Conversion Rate Optimization: Steps and Tests.
5. Delivery through double opt-in. After the form comes an email with a confirmation link, and only then the lead magnet. For that you need an email tool with forms and an automatic follow-up. Brevo*, for example, lists forms that "automatically trigger follow-up emails as soon as someone signs up" on its Starter plan, shown from €7 a month for 5,000 emails on monthly billing when viewed from Germany; there is also a free plan with no credit card needed (as of November 2026). What the confirmation email, the confirmation page and the record look like is in Double Opt-In: Email Setup and Legal Basics.
What makes a lead magnet worth it are the emails that follow. Write the first one before it goes live. That is different from following up on a quote, where the contact is already close to buying; templates for that are in Follow-Up Email Templates, No Pressure. How to turn it into a welcome series is in Email Automation: Tools and a Welcome Series. What to do with new contacts after that: Lead Nurturing Emails: Examples by Stage. And for the moment right after the form: Thank You Page Examples and What to Include.
Consent and the GDPR coupling rule
This is not legal advice, and it covers EU rules only; if you email people elsewhere, check the rules there. If your list includes people in the EU, three points matter before your form goes live:
- Proof of consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR). Where processing is based on consent, you must be able to show that the person consented. A confirmation email with a timestamp is the usual way to get that proof. German law adds that email advertising needs prior express consent (§ 7(2) no. 2 UWG).
- The coupling rule (Art. 7(4) GDPR). When assessing whether consent is freely given, "utmost account shall be taken" of whether a service is made conditional on consent to processing that the service does not need.
- Recital 43 is stricter. Consent "is presumed not to be freely given" if the performance of a contract, including a service, depends on consent that is not necessary for it.
For a lead magnet that comes only with a newsletter, that link is exactly what Art. 7(4) addresses. The article does not settle every case; have someone qualified look at your setup. Either way, say plainly on the form that the newsletter is part of the deal and how to unsubscribe, as my forms do.
How AI employees help build a lead magnet
A real example from my business: on October 22, 2026, three free downloads each needed their own page as the destination for ads. Susi wrote the brief, Conny wrote the copy, Ralf built the pages.
Conny is my AI employee for content. She writes in my voice and invents no personal facts about me: no anecdotes, no numbers, no client details; when in doubt, the spot stays blank. Her page lists newsletter drafts among the things the same process covers. Ralf builds websites and landing pages, checks them on desktop and mobile, and prepares the launch. Missing information is flagged, not silently filled in. Nothing goes live without my approval.
For your own lead magnet, that means: you supply the substance, because only you know your clients' question and the template you would otherwise send them. An AI employee can turn it into a title, page copy and a working page, test the form through to the confirmation email, and put everything in front of you for approval.
Frequently asked questions
What is a lead magnet?
A free resource offered in exchange for a way to contact someone, usually an email address. Common formats are checklists, templates, quizzes with a result, email courses and guides.
What are good lead magnet ideas for coaches?
One that answers a question from your discovery calls: a checklist, a short self-assessment, or the template you otherwise send clients one by one. The format matters less than whether it leads to your paid offer.
Do I need double opt-in for a lead magnet?
For people in the EU who will get marketing emails, you need consent you can prove (Art. 7(1) GDPR), and in Germany email advertising needs prior express consent (§ 7(2) no. 2 UWG). A confirmation email is the usual way to cover both.
Where to go from here
Write down the question clients ask you most often, and next to it the sentence your lead magnet answers it with. To see the finished version, browse my free templates and sign up for one: you will go through the form, the confirmation email and the delivery from the other side. If you want to hand off the copy and the page, Conny and Ralf are available as ready-made templates in Premium in my community AI Employee Framework, and for a project of your own you can get in touch. If there is no newsletter yet for the lead magnet to feed into: How to Start a Newsletter: My Own Setup.
